In Guitar Hero 5 kunnen (amateur)gitaristen zich ook wagen aan nummers van Amerikaanse acts Vampire Weekend (foto, breek je vingers op A-Punk), Band Of Horses (Cigarettes, Wedding Bands) en Kings Of Leon (Sex On Fire). Ook aanwezig in het spel: het onlangs herenigde Sunny Day Real Estate met Seven en Weezer is vertegenwoordigd met een liedje van Pinkerton uit 1996: Why Bother? Engeland is van de partij met Arctic Monkeys’ Brianstorm, Coldplay (In My Place), Kaiser Chiefs (Never Miss A Beat) en Blur (Song 2).
Oude rockhelden uit de jaren negentig? Die zijn er ook volop, met onder The Smashing Pumpkins (Bullet With Butterfly Wings) en Mark Lanegan’s The Screaming Trees (Nearly Lost You) en Nirvana (Smells Like Teen Spirit). Noise-adepten kunnen wellicht uit de voeten met Sonic Youth en TV On The Radio, maar ontspannen meespelen met Elton John kan natuurlijk ook.
